33. Sam The Pet Sitter
Today Bingo is out running some errands.
And Sam is home all alone.
Well, almost all alone.
When Bingo is out, it is Sam's job to make sure that his pet canary, Speedy, is taken care of.
Bingo sometimes lets Speedy out of his cage to fly. Speedy enjoys that very much. But for some reason, he usually tells Sam not to.
But Sam is supposed to make sure that his charge is well-cared for! And Sam knows that if he were a canary, he would get awfully bored sitting in there all day.
Sam knows just what to do! He is very good with birds after all.
To keep the both of them entertained, he'll just let Speedy out for a little exercise!
Bingo wouldn't mind he's sure.
And just look how happy it makes the little guy!
Bingo really underestimates Sam's competence sometimes.
He can be very responsible.

~~~
~~~
Oh no.
~~~
Ok, this is a bad instance to use an example of responsibility, Sam can see that.
But Sam doesn't panic. He retains his composure. Speedy is probably just right outside, pecking around on the lawn, and Sam can just go and pick him up. Bingo won't even have to know.
Speedy, dear Speedy, where are you?
...oh no...
But Sam still doesn't panic! Fortunately, he is an expert tree climber. He can just go up the tree and pick Speedy right up and take him back inside. Bingo will not even have to know!
Almost there... almost there...
...just a little bit closer...
Oh no...
~~~
~~~
~~~
~~~
Oh no.
Okay now Sam does begin to panic a little bit.
~~~
~~~
Also he finds he is much more graceful on the ascent than on the way down.
Those little wings don't do much anymore, do they?
~~~
Oh gosh this tree is quite tall.
He's never climbed a tree so tall before.
Oh my, oh gosh, what to do.
But he can't waste time worrying!
He must be brave! Speedy needs him.
And Bingo really doesn't need to know about this!
Oh no.
Now where did he go?
Speedy!!!
Oh good he's still nearby!
Oh no.
~~~
~~~
~~~
~~~
Oh no, oh no, oh no...
That's it! He will never be able to catch Speedy.
He's just too speedy!
He will have to tell Bingo, if Speedy stands any chance of being captured again.
Otherwise, he'll probably die a slow death from exposure out in the wild.
Or starve, unable to find any tasty bird seed in the harsh wilderness.
Or be torn, limb from limb, by predators!
It's too awful for Sam to even think about.
So he prepares to swallow his pride...
..and tell the truth.
~~~
~~~
That nothing bad at all happened today, of course!
~~~
Because Sam is good with birds.
And very responsible.
