CT Gastric Bypass Evaluations

Psychiatric/psychological evaluations for gastric bypass surgery candidates, and in association with the nutritionists of G's Fitness.

    • A gastric bypass is a surgical procedure that effectively alters the digestive system, potentially resulting in a decreased appetite.

    • At The Brief and Long-Term Psychology Center of Waterford, CT, we play an integral part of the process by providing a psychiatric evaluation of individuals interested in the procedure. The goal is to make sure that those who receive this surgery will be able to listen to their body's potentially enhanced post-surgical ability to say, "I am full". The surgery is ineffective or even dangerous for those who postoperatively overeat. Due to the fact that many people eat even when not feeling hungry, this procedure is not for everyone.

    • We are here for you more than just during evaluation! Should an underlying depression, obsessive-compulsive, or anxiety disorder be identified, we have trained therapists who can help you to overcome these disorders in order to also overcome your overeating. However, for those who do not have these problems and are largely responding to their body inappropriately sending hunger signals, we can be there for you after the surgery to support your recovery.

    • We offer standard psychiatric interview evaluations, as well as comprehensive evaluations that include psychological testing. Our rates vary depending on the level of thoroughness required. We accept most major credit cards, almost all debit cards, cash, and checks.
