Tarun Killa

Geography: Malhargad is a hill fort near Pune (30 Km). It is also known as "Tarun Killa" because it is the last fort built in Maharashtra.

Malhargad comes in the Bhuleshwar range along with Sinhgad, Purandar-Vajragad forts. Bhuleshwar range is spread in East-West direction.

History: Malhargad is built by Peshawar Sardar, Bheevrao and Madhavrao Panse in 1757. Panse was chief of the Tofkhana whose “Wada or Palace” is in the Sonori village which is at the base. The Palace is not in good condition. The fort is named after Lord Malhari or Khandoba.

There are two temples (Lord Khandoba / Malhari and Lord Mahadeo ) at the top of the fort. These are in good condition. There is also one caretaker. You will find two wells and one water tank on the top.

To reach Malhargad: There are three routes to Malhargad. Buses are available from Swargate. one can take Pune-Saswad PMT.
