Open source software for statistics and transport: a match made in heaven?

This talk will look at the overlaps and differences in the software needs of statisticians and transport planners. It will consist of three main parts: 1) an overview of the growth of open source tools in statistics, with a focus on R; 2) an exploration of the statistical computing needs of transport planners; and 3) a case study of the stplanr R package. The talk will include a live demo of the Propensity to Cycle Tool (PCT) to show how software can enable statistics to have real-world impact.
