Timothy Martyn Hill - Private sector statistician [Presentation]

Why are polls so wrong these days?

Polling of political events has become widespread in the 21st century, with advances in technology enabling a continual flow of estimated votes. But this abundance has excited comment as discrepancies between the estimates and results are noted. Timothy Martyn Hill gives a brief history of political polling, notes the current state of the art, breaks the process down into distinct steps, notes the problems of each step, notes the ongoing efforts of pollsters to overcome them, and speculates about future developments in the field.

The meeting will be held 3:30pm until 5pm, in the Department of Health building in Room 2E03, Quarry House, Quarry Hill, Leeds, LS2 7UE.
