Wednesday 16th November

Andy Sutherland (Formerly NHS Health and Social Care Information Centre) and John Bates (Department of Health) [Presentation]

The NHS in numbers

The NHS is big, but how big? Discussions about our national health service are often informed by powerful news headlines featuring huge amounts of money or inconceivable amounts of harm or benefit to patients. How can the public put these huge numbers into context, and how can we as statisticians help in explaining what the NHS is, what it is not, and whether it is doing a good job? And what opportunities are there to delve into the statistical research and evidence, to see where we might improve things in the future?

The event will take place at 3.30pm until 5pm on 16th November in the Department of Health building in Room 1W11, Quarry House, Quarry Hill, Leeds, LS2 7UE. (Google Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/T4ZArBQ49Tr)

NOTE: All are welcome to attend, but the size of the room limits places, so attendees will need to register interest on our Eventbrite site:
