Experiences with freeware for factor analysis: what are the new factors in factor analysis?

Abstract

A huge community of researchers consider applying the method of factor analysis to their data. In recent years considerable progress has been made in the capabilities of free software programmes in particular for exploratory analyses. I will provide some reflections and recommendations based on my use of these tools, using examples from health and life-style surveys, birth cohort studies and psychiatry. These psychometric epidemiology case-studies will be show-cased in future training events across the White Rose Social Science DTC (Doctoral Training Centre). Examples include "bifactor style" analyses.

The meeting will be held at University of Leeds, Worsley Building room 6.55, from 4-5PM with refreshments beforehand at 3.30PM. Note that room 6.55 is located on the 6th floor of the Worsley Building, is also known as Seminar Room 7 (SR 7) and is signposted as 6.055 on parts of the 6th floor.
