String Quartets
I have written 4 String Quartets. (There are, unfortunately, no PDF files for the first 3 of these, as I was using another program - Cakewalk - before I settled on using Finale. I do, however, have printouts of the score pages for those 3 works. Some day I may enter these 3 into Finale, as I did for some other of my early works.)
Op. 12 was originally a String Trio, later revised to a Quartet.
Op. 18 was also originally a String Trio, later revised to a Quartet.
Op. 22 differs from the above 2 works in 3 ways. It was a Quartet from the start, and I wrote it to commemorate the victims of the 9/11/2001 tragedy. (I started writing it on the Monday of that week but was only a few measures into it when the tragedy occurred, and I resolved to finish it as noted.) The third difference is that this work has 5 movements, while the 2 above have 4 (each).
Op. 58 is titled "The Search for Truth" and each movement depicts a different way to search. The 4 movements are:
"1 - Philosophy"
"2 - The March of Science" (some polyrhythm towards the end)
"3 - Mysticism"
"4 - Revelation" (this last movement quotes a well-known LDS Hymn which shows my preference for how to find Truth)
Op. 72 has only 3 movements. I composed this in a single day (Fri 29 Sep 2023) - as I awoke in the morning I had the idea for the first movement vividly in my mind, so composed it soon after rising, then the following 2 movements later that day.
