Amulon

This is my second opera, Opus 66.

The libretto is from a play I wrote at BYU my Senior year. (The original ending had Amulon dismissing everyone and resigning himself to eternal damnation; I cut that and used the lines from Alma summarizing the Book of Mormon as the new, positive end of the opera.)

The opera has 3 scenes and 4 soloists (TTBB, one T playing 2 roles) plus an SATB chorus, and orchestra. I started the music for scene 1 about a year before I started composing "Mantle of the Prophet" then set this aside until I was done with "Mantle...".

I wrote scene 1 of the libretto for a Creative Writing - Poetry class taught by Clinton F. Larson, who wrote the play "The Mantle of the Prophet" and many other works.

Of interest is the line "This yields the weight of the future" spoken by PRIESTCRAFT just after the MESSENGER leaves - Brother Larson gave me that line as he reviewed my submission.

I have attached the libretto document to this page.
