John's Gospel

Op.29 is an Oratorio that takes about 1.5 hours to play through completely.  The text is from the book of John (the Gospel) in the New Testament, King James version [with the exception of a short quotation from Francis Bacon in part 7B].

The work follows the Baroque pattern of Arias, Recitatives, and Choruses, with orchestral sections, just like J.S. Bach and G.F. Haendel did - but the music is (of course) definitely NOT in their style!

There are 7 movements, subdivided (except for movements 1 and 4) into numbered subsections.  The attached file (this page) has the complete text for the work.  There are 9 separate MP3 files on my 'Music Files' page - 'Op29-JohnsGospel-1' through 'Op29-JohnsGospel-6' and the 7th movement is split into 3 files, 'Op29-JohnsGospel-7A', 'Op29-JohnsGospel-7B', and 'Op29-JohnsGospel-7C'.
