Advanced Technology
Samsung has been developing OFDMA based portable Internet technology since 2002. While Samsung and the Telecommunication Technology Association (TTA) developed the technology led by the Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) in Korea, the technology standard was matched with that of IEEE 802.16e in 2004. Samsung also delivered the world's first touch-and-feel experience of the 4G wireless technology at the 2006 Samsung 4G Forum. Samsung demonstrated 100 megabit-per-second data transmission under mobile settings ?in a bus moving at 60 kilometers per hour. It showed up to 1 gigabit-per-second data transfer at a display area inside the forum venue. In addition, Samsung demonstrated its newest Mobile WiMAX technology, Mobile WIMAX WAVE2?at 3GSM World Congress 2007, Barcelona, Spain. Samsung used Mobile WiMAX Wave2?systems and terminals to successfully demonstrate high-speed transmission of data at 34 Mbps for downloading and 8 Mbps for uploading.
Total Solution
Samsung Mobile WiMAX is an end-to-end total solution oriented technology. It offers total solution including various terminals such as CPE, PCMCIA, PDAs, and phones, access service networks composed of RAS (base station) and ACR (ASN-GW), IMS core components, and application servers. In addition, the ecosystem for the commercialization of turn-key systems is being established. In the case of base stations, Samsung secures various lineups that cover from macro dense urban to in-building cases, and provides products within all frequency bands (2.3/2.5/3.5GHz) included in the Mobile WiMAX profile.

Worldwide Competence
Samsung has gained experience commercializing CDMA (IS95/1X/EV-DO) and WCDMA (Rel.4/Rel 5) for the first time in the world. Based on this commercialization know-how, Samsung started providing the world's first Mobile WiMAX commercialization service with the name of WiBro'swith KT and SKT in June 2006. (The WiBro service launched in Seoul will be extended to areas near Seoul in late 2006, and offered across the nation in 2008~2009.) Based on the successful commercialization of this technology in the Korean market, Samsung is making an all-out effort to achieve globalization of Mobile WiMAX. Samsung is now pursuing Mobile WiMAX business with 35 operators in 23 countries globally, and has already concluded commercialization contracts or is implementing pilot services with nine operators in seven countries including the US, as well as European, and South American countries.
Standard Leadership
Samsung is very involved in industry forums and standards bodies to ensure global standardization.
Samsung actively participates in the WiMAX Forum as a board member with their accumulated technology power, plays a leading role in the Technical Working Group and Network Working Group, and leads the setting of the Mobile WiMAX standard and spreading Mobile WiMAX. Also Samsung plays an important role in IEEE 802.16f/g as a vice chair."
