Arrangements are nearly complete for the 41st Region IV Science Fair to be held at the Somerville High School Field House, 81 Highland Avenue, Somerville, Massachusetts on March 18th, 2017.

The Somerville School Department, Tufts University, Distrigas of Massachusetts, and the Somerville Rotary Club are co-sponsoring this annual competition. Both public and parochial school youngsters in grades 9 through 12 will exhibit their projects. The Regional Fair is a stepping-stone to the State Science Fair at M.I.T. as it affords the students an opportunity to participate in the ‘Science Fair Setting’ at an intermediate level thus gaining valuable insight to the project via constructive criticism from their Judging Team.

We hope you are interested in serving as a science fair judge. The actual judging of the projects will take place Saturday morning, from 9:00 to 11:30 A.M. Coffee will be served at 8:15 A.M. in the Highlander Cafe with a buffet lunch at 11:30. Judges are now asked to register their availability here.

Please understand that the judging assignments are prepared in advance of the Science Fair from a pool of judges who have registered their availability by March 1st. Judges who do not register but do come to the Science Fair will have a standby judging status and will be assigned projects the day of the fair as needed. To avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest, Judges affiliated with High Schools are asked not to judge students from their school.

If you need directions, have any questions or would like to invite a colleague to judge with you, please have them contact us at RegionIVSciFair@gmail.com. We can always use extra judges! It is extremely important that we are aware of your intentions so that we can prepare your judging packet prior to the fair. We thank professionals like you for your cooperation and help in making this a worthwhile experience for these hard working students.

Before you register, make sure you understand what category best fits your expertise by reviewing the state Category Descriptions. Once you register you may want to know what it is like to be a Judge, what to expect, or even what guidelines to judge by. Download our "How to Be an Effective Judge", or take a look at a sample Judging Score Card or Scoring Guidelines to learn more. Any other questions can be addressed to Chris Angelli at RegionIVSciFair@gmail.com.
