Judges

Welcome Science Fair Judges!

Thank you for your interest in serving as a Region IV Judge!  Investing just a few hours of your time will provide encouragement to these bright young students in their quest for excellence in science and technology. Your feedback and comments at the Region IV Fair will help students improve their projects for the state and international fairs!

The Region IV Fair judging will take place at Breed Hall at Tufts University on Friday, March 1, 2024.

Check-in and Orientation: 8:00AM at the Interfaith Center at 58 Winthrop St. Medford.

Approximate Judging Period: 8:30AM - 12:00PM

Judges will be assigned to hear approximately six presentations by including time to provide feedback. We ask that you spend approximately 15-20 minutes per project, as well as 5-10 minutes scoring and providing helpful comments to help students improve their projects.

> REGISTRATION FOR JUDGES IS CLOSED ON ZFAIRS. Please join us next year.<

Tufts University is sponsoring this annual competition. Both public and private school students in grades 9 through 12 will exhibit their projects. The Regional Fair is a stepping-stone to the Massachusetts Science & Engineering Fair and the International Science & Engineering Fair as it affords the students an opportunity to participate in the ‘Science Fair Setting’ at an intermediate level. This provides valuable insight to the project via constructive criticism from their Judging Team.

Please understand that the judging assignments are prepared in advance of the Science Fair from a pool of judges who have registered their availability in advance. Judges who do not register but do come to the Science Fair will have a standby judging status and will be assigned projects the day of the fair as needed. To avoid any conflicts of interest, teachers with participating students or persons affiliated/related to students (family member, supervisor, mentor, etc.) should not act as judges.

If you have any questions or would like to invite a colleague to judge with you, please have them contact us. We can always use extra judges! It is extremely important that we are aware of your intentions so that we can prepare your judging assignments prior to the fair. We thank professionals like you for your help in making this a worthwhile experience for these hard working students.

Before you register, make sure you understand what category best fits your expertise by reviewing the state Category Descriptions.
