Polio Eradication

PSM.PMCH is proud to have been a part of the movement that led to eradication of polio from India. For the past many decades, we have been involved in:

  • Awareness programmes regarding modes and prevention of transmission of enteric diseases with emphasis on handwashing and reduction of person-to-person transmission
  • Surveys and studies on the pattern of transmission of enteric diseases and the impact of hygienic practices on them (presented at 14th World Congress on Public Health by Dr Ranjeet Sinha)
  • Collaboration with international agencies for streamlining resources, participation in and promotion of routine immunisation activities

We are also proud to be associated with the Global Citizen which featured Dr Madhumita Mukherjee in a special Facebook video with the title "Meet Dr. Madhumita Mukerjee of the Patna Medical College & Hospital in Patna, India working to eradicate #polio through lifestyle behaviors like cleanliness, waste management and education." VPD Surveillance Workshop

The VPD Surveillance workshop was organized in Lecture Theatre 1, Patna Medical College on 20th of January, 2016 in collaboration with WHO Bihar to emphasize on the importance of surveillance of Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPDs). Principal of Patna Medical College Prof Dr SN Sinha inaugurated the event. Speakers from various departments viz; Neurology, Dermatology, Paediatrics and ENT were invited to speak on the vaccine preventable diseases presenting in their respective OPDs and the criteria for diagnosis of the same. The speakers were:

  • Dr Deepak Kumar, Paediatrics, PMCH

The highlight of the workshop was the Free Paper Presentation session. Papers were presented by the following young IAPSM members on their research and work done on vaccine preventable diseases.
