About this website

THE INITIATION

The website of the Department of Community Medicine, Patna Medical College, Patna was created by Prateek Nishant, a student of standard 9, son of Dr Ranjeet Kumar Sinha (then Assistant Professor in the department) originally as http://psm.pmch.googlepages.com. The site was designed with a purpose to share and disseminate information, knowledge, discuss activities, events and promote creativity in the field of Community Medicine. It was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Dr Geeta Prasad at the IAPSMCON 2007, the 2nd Annual Conference of the IAPSM Bihar Chapter. An independent website of a medical specialty department of a medical college, it is the first in Bihar.

THE PROGRESS

This website has been expanding its coverage ever since it was launched. Initially, it consisted of webpages pertaining to both PSM.PMCH and IAPSM Bihar, but considering the volume of content, the separate IAPSMBIHAR website was created and is managed by the department. The website came to a new theme and colour scheme in 2009 because the original format was discarded by Google during a shift operation. The domain was shifted to GoogleSites; however, access to the pages is still allowed using Googlepages by a redirecting code. The website includes elements fed by other websites as well, thanks to the oneness of Google services. Another shift operation to a new GoogleSites in 2017 allowed the website to have a more professional look and feel, and it was launched at the World Health Day 2017 celebrations as the 10th Anniversary Edition.

The website content includes apart from text, a navigation sidebar, photographs, weblinks, picture slideshows, and a link to a Google-Map with PSM.PMCH on the world map and satellite picture.
