Communication

You have probably heard the phrase, "communication is key." This statement is true for the simple fact that what you don't know can hurt you. The development process takes many players to be successful and no one is an island. The decisions that one contractor may make may ultimately effect the entire development in the future. It might be hard to imagine having to lower the water, sewage, and drainage pipes for an entire subdivision by 1ft due to a lack of communication, but these things happen.

Effective communication leaves little room for assumptions that foster poor decisions. In projects as collaborative as real estate development, saving anyone time is genuinely saving everyone time. The inability to communicate effectively, especially as a developer or project manager, will make achieving goals futile due to the lack of clear and concise expectations.
