Spring / Summer 2013
This Spring/Summer issue of the PhilWP Journal features articles representing research, inquiry, and reflections from practitioners who work both in and outside of the classroom. Several articles were born out of the National Afterschool Matters Initiative Practitioner Fellowship and are published here courtesy of the Afterschool Matters journal. In this PhilWP-led Institute, supported by the Penn’s Out of School Time Resource Center, the National Institute on Out-of-School Time, and the National Writing Project; classroom teachers and after school practitioners engaged in research focused on developing and utilizing knowledge and skills to better serve children and teens. The other articles in this publication showcase the special places and spaces that create caring communities designed to understand and meet the needs of diverse learners. All of these articles attest to the many and varied ways that practitioners, both in and out of school, connect, engage and enrich the lives of those they serve.
