Module 1 - People Care

People Care is one of the 3 ethical bases of PermaCulture ... but how do we put this into practice?

People are, as well as the context, without doubt also the most difficult aspect when it comes to realising truly sustainable projects.

In this module we explore the theory & practice of the different facets of this primary matter: investigating the various models of the nature of people, of groups & relationships; challenging models about learning, the history & meaning of sustainability, how our minds work, how groups work, what exactly does go wrong when we are incapable of cooperating?

This module consists of 10 classes or chapters:

You can see the subjects covered in each class in the programme of the slide show at the top on the first page of each chapter.

Some of the additional materials available in this manual for each chapter are detailed here in the menu to the right >>>

Below are some more general introductory materials for this chapter.

"The greatest challenges for humanity are not hunger, poverty, peace, public health, education, the economy, natural resources, nor a combination of these or other issues

... but our capacity to build new social organizations capable of providing the solutions.

In this conference we start with What is Permaculture?, how & why it was created, how it developed and why are we now talking about Integral Permaculture: what does it consist of exactly and why is it important in this historical phase of Transition and what patterns do we foresee for the future.

What is Integral Permaculture?

(F. Noubel)

Our greatest challenge is collective intelligence."

& these are two basic articles from the main website:

      • What is Permaculture?

      • & Integral Permaculture?

        • PeopleCare and Collective Intelligence

        • People Care is one of the three Permaculture ethics, but what does it mean exactly? And in our times, how can we design for this? Group work is something that is fundamentally important, and we need good tools to encourage collective intelligence. Fortunately we have many, but they are not sufficiently well known and they are applied even less.

        • Great TED video about how

        • People-Care is intrinsically inter-connected with Earth-Care

Bibliography for Module 1

Daniel Quinn, Ishmael

We call this the 'pre-text' for integral permaculture: a great start for un-learning a lot of assumptions we make about history and civilization and seeing the myths of our culture with new eyes. A socratic-style gorilla teacher gives a human student a new perspective of us as a species, turning our world totally upside down.

Practicals Proposed for M1

In the recorded classes you'll see that we go proposing practices that will help understand the material in more depth. If you wish to share them do so in the class (if you are enrolled in a course) or you can also send them to this address: hola@permaculturescience.org, & if they are good examples we will include them in this e-Book.
