Sy Schlossman : 1933 - 2018

Sy Schlossman passed away on June 16, 2018. He was born on July 11, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY to Isadore and Adele Schlossman.

Sy graduated from New York University and began his career in Physical Therapy and Healthcare Administration in Ohio. He raised his family in Mansfield, OH and was instrumental in building The Rehab Center, where he served as director for 18 years. The Center remains an invaluable resource today. He became director of Sister Kenny Institute at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN in a mid-career move, and served as Senior Consultant at Progressive Alternatives in Kalamazoo, MI for 25 years. He served as President of Moss Rehab in Philadelphia, PA and was the CEO of the National Association of Rehabilitation Hospitals in Washington, D.C. before retiring to Sarasota.

He was preceded in death by his son, Ian Biff Schlossman. He is survived by his beloved Maggie King, daughter Reyna (Michael) Stagnaro, son David Schlossman, grandsons Evan Stagnaro, Izaak and Woody Schlossman, nephew and niece Darryl and Lauri Arbeit.

A passionate sports enthusiast, Sy was the ultimate tennis man. He loved all aspects of the game and cherished the many friendships he made at Payne Park Tennis Center. He was instrumental in the organization of the Friends of Payne Park Tennis Center and was responsible for introducing many visitors to Payne Park to established members, showing them the ropes and encouraging their play.

A kind and generous man, Sy's wisdom, positive outlook, and zest for life continues to inspire all who knew him.
