Makers: Women Who Make America

Post date: Mar 18, 2013 5:50:04 PM

WEDU showed this three hour documentary on Tuesday Feb. 26. It shows women’s struggle for equality since the 1950’s using archived footage and first hand interviews with women instrumental in the movement both for and against our freedom. If you missed it, you can go to makers.com and watch the full video or view stories from the women who made it all happen.

For those of us who have been in the struggle for a long time, it brings back many memories. It also shows how radical we were way back when, interrupting a Senate hearing on abortion that included no women speakers. Of course, now we have more women in Congress and they were the ones to protest when the Senate held a hearing on contraception without any women speakers in 2012. There is still a long way to go on so many issues. But it’s wonderful to see how women have integrated many male professions and even become economic powerhouses. We don’t let anything stop us!
