BAREFOOT AND PREGNANT – NO WAY!

Post date: Jan 8, 2012 12:57:37 AM

A group called Personhood Florida is attempting to gather enough valid petitions to put an amendment on the Florida Ballot that would give the “pre-born” all the rights of people who are actually born. The amendment states that life begins at fertilization. It would make the following illegal:

    • · Abortion, including for incest, rape, and those medically necessary to save a woman’s life
    • · Ending a pregnancy to treat a miscarriage or ectopic pregnancies
    • · Birth Control Pills
    • · IUDs
    • · Morning After Pills

It would also restrict:

    • · In Vitro Fertilization
    • Embryonic stem cell research.

The law doesn’t prescribe penalties for violations, but if you define a fertilized egg as a person, the crime would be murder and its penalties would apply.

The Director of Personhood FL is Pastor Bryan Longworth, Associate Pastor of Covenant Tabernacle in Port St. Lucie, FL. In January, he is calling for a two year campaign to gather signatures on “The Florida Pro-Life Personhood Amendment.”

The recently passed, restrictive Florida Election Law has one bright spot. It limited the life of petition signatures to two years, so Personhood Florida has had to throw away their petitions and start all over again. In 2012, they intend to contact every pastor in Florida and ask them to get signatures at their churches. They believe this amendment is the way to end abortion in the US. They don’t talk about the eliminating most of the effective birth control methods, but that is part of their agenda. They also haven’t thought through how a zygote can have possibly exercise constitutional rights like free assembly, free speech or the right to bear arms, but that doesn’t bother them one bit. Neither does the fact that the zygote is inside a woman who has her own rights. They’ll just throw her in jail if she doesn’t want to be barefoot and pregnant.

We can’t ignore this amendment even though it sounds ridiculous because these people believe they are on a mission from God. They obtained enough signatures to get this on the ballot in Mississippi where the amendment was defeated, 58% to 42%. All the candidates for Governor in Mississippi (including the Democrat) supported the amendment. In addition, four Republican presidential candidates have signed the Personhood USA pro-life pledge which states that life begins at conception: Texas Governor Rick Perry, Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

The national organization, Personhood USA, intends to keep trying to pass this over and over state by state until the amendment passes somewhere, and they can challenge Roe v. Wade.

Get ready to fight.
