Sathar Mutants

An eerie hush fell over the crowd as whispers darted through the air, each one more hurried than the last. They spoke of a disconcerting development on the fringes of the Palalyrn Cluster - the appearance of creatures in hitherto classified bases and starships bearing an uncanny resemblance to Sathars. The question on everyone's lips was whether an extraterrestrial species would willingly distort their own kind into grotesque versions of their original selves. It seemed unthinkable, yet if any race were audacious enough to conceive such a mad scheme, it would be the Sathar. These Sathar Mutants co-mingle with the Sathar and each other, although there are reports of a hierarchical structure and that the Mutants are cannon fodder for the continuing war in any Star Frontiers campaign.

Sathar Mutant Overseer

Overseers bear a striking resemblance to typical Sathar, almost deceivingly so. The key distinction lies in their heads. These mutants possess forward-facing, single-pupiled eyes, spaced apart on their wormlike heads, mirroring the placement of a human’s eyes. In place of the usual tapered, ring-like mouth, they sport a terrifying array of sharp teeth, capable of tearing a person asunder with a mere bite.

Mutant overseers cannot hypnotize characters like standard Sathars can. A Mutant overseer's Leadership score must be 10 points higher than its Personality score, so that they can lead the hordes of lower-tiered mutants.

Sathar Mutant Trooper

Troopers bear a striking resemblance to Sathar in their body structure. These mutants are devoid of legs, moving instead with a slithering motion that can be heard from a short distance away, akin to a concealed rattlesnake slithering in your vicinity. Their heads are equipped with a pair of eyes, similar to those of an overseer, but their mouths are adorned with numerous tentacles that flail about during an attack. These troopers, seemingly less intelligent, often swarm in groups ranging from tens to sixties. One can only hope to avoid encountering a squad of these troopers under the command of an overseer, as they fervently execute their orders.

Mutant troopers cannot hypnotize characters like standard Sathars can. If you fail an Intelligence check, the tentacles of a Mutant Trooper have the ability to paralyze you. They typically employ these tentacles to immobilize and capture unsuspecting victims.

Sathar Mutant Engineers

Engineers, standing at a mere 1-meter tall, bear a striking resemblance to the worm-like Sathar, but they are legless and slither along silently to do their tasks. These creatures are often discovered behind enemy lines, diligently repairing vehicles, robots, and weapons utilized by the Sathar and their Mutant counterparts. Equipped with one or two limbs capable of wielding small weapons or tools, these beings exhibit a high degree of intelligence. Their multiple eyes, perhaps, aid in their swift repair work.

Like their standard Sathar counterparts, Mutant Engineers possess the ability to hypnotize characters. Failing a Logic check, these Mutant Engineers can only compel characters to disregard their presence, thereby allowing them to evade perilous encounters.

Sathar Mutant Guardians, often found alone or in groups of up to five, act as the watchful protectors for the Sathar. These compact guardians, with a length of merely 50 cm, are adorned with numerous eyelets and an array of tendrils, endowing them with agility comparable to that of an earthly canine. Their paramount responsibility is to protect invaluable artifacts and crucial sites within Sathar fortresses. In their defensive stance, Guardians exhibit vigorous head movements and employ their whip-like tendrils to deliver a minor electric jolt. However, what poses a greater threat to characters are the alarm-like buzzing sounds they produce with the uppermost tendrils on their heads. A mere group of five can create a deafening sound just be rubbing their tendrils together, which is certain to draw the attention of nearby entities.

Guardians are not available for roleplay; they are designed to be adversaries in Star Frontiers campaigns.
