A bit of personal history...
Back in the 90s I used Mandrake Linux. In 2000s I went to using Ubuntu and Windows XP was my last Windows I used. After Ubuntu went to using Unity desktop, I switched to LinuxMint. I am old school and wanted to remain with a desktop style with menus that I was comfortable with. My old Toshiba laptop is the last Ubuntu I have. I switched the Unity desktop on it for Xcfe.
