About Audacity
Audacity is the audio recording/editing software that I use and recommend for others. It is a free, easy-to-use audio editor and recorder.
It is available for Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows.
With it you can:
Edit all kinds of audio formats like MP3, Ogg Vorbis, WAV and AIFF.
Record live audio or convert media like cassette tapes and LPs into digital recordings or CD-ROMs.
Cut, slice, paste, splice, import, mix audio.
Perform all kinds of special effects on the audio from changing the speed or pitch of a recording, Noise Removal, Truncate Silence, Generate DTMF Tones, Compressor, Click Removal (for LP recordings) to mention a few. For more in depth list of Audacity's effects see Audacity Effects Menu.
Edit Ogg Vorbis, MP3, WAV or AIFF sound files.
Has Nyquist support, so you or others can write their own plug-in effects. Means that you can find special effect plug-ins to enhance your Audacity.
