This book aims to progressively publish the original text of Michel Nostradamus's "Les Prophéties" (The Prophecies), based on the Bonhomme edition published in Lyon in 1555 and the du Rosne edition published in the same city in 1557.
Many editions of Les Prophéties circulating under Nostradamus's name are based on later compiled and expanded mixed editions, often lacking clear indications of their structure and sources. This series aims to establish a foundation for textual criticism by limiting its scope to editions published during Nostradamus's lifetime, transcribing the text character by character based on extant manuscripts, and reproducing the original text structure as closely as possible.
Phase 1 (Ver. 0.1–0.2) will include the four-line poems from Volume I to Volume IV, based on the manuscript of the 1555 Bonhomme edition housed at the Vienna National Library. In the second phase (Ver. 0.3–1.0), we plan to reproduce the expanded edition published in 1557 by Antoine du Rosne's bookshop, based on a manuscript held at the Utrecht University Library.
This project will clarify the textual basis for Nostradamus research and improve the accuracy of studies on the relationship between the poems and astronomical symbols.
