The NEIBA District Jazz Festival is typically held the first Saturday in March. The deadline for registering bands is usually mid-January. The festival is held at four locations around the district and is split up by classification and middle school and high school levels. Participating middle school bands get a thirty minute time slot to warm-up, perform, and receive instant and direct feedback from two clinicians in addition to taped and written comments. Middle school bands are awarded a rating (superior, excellent, or good). The high school bands have a thirty minute time slot in which to set up and perform a maximum of 20 minutes of music. They are critiqued by three hired adjudicators who provide taped and written comments as well as rank the bands. Outstanding soloists are also recognized in each center for both middle school and high school bands. A registration fee of $100 is due for each participating band.
