League Structure
The basic rules of play for the NKSL are covered under FIFA, USSF, US Youth Soccer and KYSA rules of play.
The following cover the specifics of play for NKSL.
League Structure
Each spring and fall the league will operate both boys and girls divisions. Boys cannot be rostered on girls teams.
If a sufficient number of teams enter, the league shall operate different playing levels of divisions within each age group. They shall be First Division, Second Division, Third Division, etc. NKSL will operate as many divisions as necessary to support the number of teams entered by the members. None of the divisions are based on results from prior seasons or a teams prior season’s results.
Leagues will operate in single two-year brackets (which will follow US Youth Soccer practice of under 12, under 14, etc).
The number of teams placed in each division is dependent on the total number of teams in each age group, the objective is to have at least eight (8) teams.
The number of games each team will play during the season is eight (8) games
Each team will be placed in a division within their proper age.
A team may request it be permitted to play in an older age group. Any such request must be accompanied by recommendation from the team's club President and/or Registrar
Each team must play its home matches at its club’s fields. The league makes an effort to group games on fields in an effort to find efficiencies for referee coverage each weekend.
Each club is expected to attract new referee resources by providing information on referee certification to all the clubs members. Without referees there are no games, which impacts the players.
Guest players – there is no policy for a team to utilize a guest player. When players are missing the team can utilize registered players from the same club in the same age group if necessary.
