長野県および徳島県からの記録は,琵琶湖産アユの移入に伴い侵入したものと考えられている [2].
Gyrodactylus japonicus recorded from Nagano and Tokushima prefectures were considered to be co-introduced with the host Plecoglossus altivelis altivelis from Lake Biwa, Shiga Prefecture [2].
和名は横山・長澤 (2014) によって提唱された.
