ride a - bike, bicycle, horse, skateboard (ride in a taxi etc)
take a - bus, train, taxi, plane
drive a - car (drive a bus, train etc, but only when you are the driver)
fly a plane, glider, airship, (fly in a balloon)
board a ship, train, bus, ferry, plane
catch a bus, train, flight, plane
get on a - plane, boat, ferry, bus
get in a - car, taxi, truck, (bus, plane, train, only when you are talking from close proximity)
get off a bus, plane, train (not a car, get out of a car)
Using getting in and on changes depending on proximity (your position). For example: If I am in Tokyo and my friend is in Kyoto I say "Get on the train in Kyoto", but if I am on the platform with my friend and we are both in front of the train it is possible to say "Get in the train" and "Get on the train".
