Principles of Interactive Simulations (Games)

Summary

Although war gaming is a historical method in the military area, since computers and computer models became available, gaming has become an increasingly interesting instrument in many disciplines. In this paper, a game is considered as an experimental tool in order to perceive or anticipate the dynamics and the behavior of systems that contain cooperative and/or antagonistic intelligent subsystems as in military systems. Based on the theory of systems as well as the theory of models the gaming method is classified. Several aspects such as hierarchical approach, subsystem aggregation, experimental application, possibilities for anticipation, etc. are discussed. A model of the gaming activity is structured. Some results of this model are presented and correlated to real experience.
