Bob Allen


Robert William Allen, age 74, of Dover, died Saturday, May 8, 2021, at his home in Bullfrog Valley. He was born September 25, 1946, in Maracaibo, Venezuela, to John O. and Gladis (Lundeen) Allen. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Charles Allen, and his sons, Kerry Allen and Kane Allen.


He is survived by the love of his life, Susan Walker Allen, to whom he was married for 35 years; his son Kipley Allen; and granddaughter, Nella Anna Allen, both of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his brother, John R. Allen (Darlene) of Norman, Okla.; and many other close friends and family members, especially his many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.


He dedicated his life to science education and improving the environment. He was a professor of organic chemistry for 35 years, 32 of them at Arkansas Tech University, until his retirement in 2012. He was a professor emeritus, and was voted the Outstanding Professor of the Year by the students of ATU in 2000-2001.

He was an active member of the Pope County Democratic Party, and served on the State Board of the Arkansas Canoe Club and on the Executive Board of the Arkansas Sierra Club.


Visitation will be at Russellville Family Funeral from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19. A memorial service to celebrate Bob's life will be held on Thursday, May 20, at 4:00 at the home of Dr. Dale and Pam Barton, 545 Bayou Ridge Road, Dover, Ark. A reception will follow.

In lieu of plants or flowers, a memorial gift may be made to the ATU Foundation at ATU for a scholarship in Bob's memory.
