Equal parts storyteller, teacher, and mathematician, Jason Ermer was once voted “most likely to lead children to their fictional doom.” Jason's passion for crafting interactive problem-solving experiences has filled his mathematics classroom with joy and puzzlement. In this session, join Jason in a discussion of the benefits (and the fun!) of combining mathematics with elements of storytelling. We'll first explore selected problems from Jason's classroom-ready mathematical adventure, The Arithmetiquities. Participants will then be challenged to spice up one of several (rather boring) sample problems by adding a creative narrative element. Teachers are also welcome to bring (boring) problems from their own curriculum!
We will meet at 6-8 pm via Zoom.
Participants earn CPE hours for this workshop.
