Chemistry (9-12th grades)
The focus of this course will be on major topics of Chemistry, including states of matter, atomic structure, classification, molecules and bonding, reactions, acids and bases, oxidation and reduction reactions, nuclear and organic chemistry. Students will be required to complete a mid-terms and final. Assigned laboratory work will be completed using online, demonstrative and hands-on activities that will apply the chemistry principles and concepts. This is a one year, 10-unit course
Required Prerequisites: Algebra 1 and either Biology or Physics
Textbook Requirement: Chemistry: Concepts and Applications (Glencoe - 2005) or AGS Chemistry (2007)
Attendance: Twice a week for 1 hour on scheduled Academic Boost classroom days, 26 days per semester.

Class Schedule for Basic Chemistry 2012-13
(Labs subject to change based on materials)
Assignments:
Before Week 1: Safety in the Science Lab
Read the High School Science Lab Safety rules p. 839-840 or xxi-xxiii.
Watch Safety powerpoint on Ms. Rhonda’s website.
Create a list of Anti-rules (opposites of the rule list).
Design a poster (at least 8x11) of one of the rules using illustrations/art work.
Take the safety exam as an open book test, using rules list.
