Lab Report Template

Title: A brief concise, yet descriptive title.

Purpose: Can be stated in the form of a question. This is often the question the Hypothesis is responding to.

Hypothesis: This is a researched, or at least thought about, guess for the conclusion of the experiment. It should be decisive, and written in a complete sentence.

Materials: List all the materials you used. These can often be found in the experiment sheet in class or in the book.

Procedure: Write a step by step abbreviated list which explains all that you will do in the lab. You may paraphrase and combine steps from the experiment sheet or book. This should be written so anyone can repeat the experiment by following your instructions.

Data or Analysis: This section should include any observations, diagrams, data tables, graphs or additional notes you make during the lab. You can attach a separate sheet, such as a graph or data chart. Include a “See Attached” here. All tables and charts must be labeled appropriately.

Conclusions: This is where you accept or reject your hypothesis. Be sure to explain why you accepted or rejected your hypothesis using data from the lab. Include a couple of sentences with a summary of the data to help the reader understand the results. Discuss possible errors that occurred during the experiment. Finally, include a 1-2 sentence statement wrapping up the lab write-up like you would do for an essay. Keep the purpose in mind as you write your concluding statement. (You can get an idea of what to say if you look at the conclude and apply questions from a book lab)
