From Mr. Santiago,

I am getting beat up here parents. I am in the process of learning all the work it really is as a parent with a student. I am seeing some of Reaping of what has been sown with my very own children. I have also learned that I sure do have a lot of sowing to go. For those of you are experiencing a slow reaping season, just keep sowing. Remember, you reap what you sow.

As for your students, I have been extremely impressed on the work ethic I have seen since our return from holiday break. Please continue to encourage, inspire, and equip your students. So far, we have completed an 80% turn in rate on our study time and a 25% score jump from last week’s quiz to this week’s quiz. Classwork quality has improved along with the behavior during group work.

As listed every week we discussing and learning about important political issues and figures in History. This is a great opportunity for you to pick up a USA today and read it with your child or Watch CNN student news and have some “grown up” conversation with them. Students who study news or watch TV news are more interested in current events than those who do not, according to a large body of research cited in a 1997 report (Student Interest in National News and Its Relation to School Courses) from the National Center for Education Statistics. Keeping up with current events covers a wide range of subjects and connect to all areas of the curriculum. Build language, vocabulary, reading comprehension, critical thinking, problem solving, oral expression, and listening skills. So, do some learning with your students this week.
