Week of 5/12

History Repeats Itself – Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Due June 2nd

For your final assessment you will create a photo essay in which you show history (connected to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights) repeating itself. You will select an event that has taken place sometime between your birth year (1999) and today, this will be your “current event”. You will then find a similar historical event(s). After researching both events you will highlight the similarities and a few differences via a photo essay. A photograph captures a moment in our planet’s history that otherwise may have been lost. The photographer does more than just preserve the moment. Through the picture, he or she also speaks about the captured moment to anyone who sees it. “A picture says a thousand words.” The photo essay is a group of images organized in a way that speaks forcefully to a wide audience. In class you have viewed an example of a photo essay on the Cuban Revolution. Please use this as your guide when creating your essay.

Additionally you will provide a 1-page summary (minimum) of your project and a sources page.

The essay should be a minimum of 4 minutes long, but no longer than 8 minutes in length.

We will begin presentations on Monday June 2nd and complete presentations during final exams. If you are absent on Monday June 2nd, your assessment will be reduced by a letter grade. To avoid this grade reduction, you may have a parent or guardian turn in the assignment for you. Technological needs must be addressed prior to your presentation. All students must submit a complete copy of their project (including jump drives, power points, etc.)

In addition to time already given in class you will have 2 project check-in dates 5/14 and 5/29. You will be required to bring the necessary materials to class these dates. There is a possibility we will have some class time prior to the check-in dates, as such, I am asking that all your work (work completed in school as well as at home) be saved to an online folder (such as google docs, or dropbox).
