Week of 09/12
Bringing Human Rights Home
Part I - Mapping Human Rights
The purpose of this activity is to map the protection of Human Rights in your neighborhood and Chicago.
Sign into your google account
https://www.google.com/maps/d/
Click “Create a new map”
Click on “untitled” type in “YOUR NAME’s Human Right’s Map” and Click “Save”
In the white box at the top of the map, type in a Chicago address that you spend a lot of time at, it can be anywhere meaningful (you do not have to explain the location’s significance to me). Click the search button.
Zoom in a number of times so that you can see a number of names of businesses, landmarks, etc.
Look atleast 3-4 blocks (you can go farther out if you’d like) radius of your address. Where you see human rights being upheld, protected, or enhanced? Mark each area with a marker (think: government buildings, schools, public spaces, public works, etc.) by doing the following:
Click the pin button (it will say “add marker” when you hover over it);
Click the area you would like to mark. You do not have to mark the original location that you searched.
Type the article and a 2-3 word summary of the Right in the top box; Type in the name or description of the place and click “Save”
Find atleast 10 examples of the protection of Human Rights in your neighborhood.
Assign a different color to each Right
When you are finished share your map with me at lemenacho@cps.edu, then you will complete a Google form (it will be posted below)
