Week of 02/09

Chapter 1 reading

SORRY I am not in class today - I was informed late on Wednesday that I have to attend a mandatory CPS meeting. Below you will find the tentative schedule as well as the Human Presentation rubric. Please spend the period reading the next chapter or working on your group presentation.

Formation of the Contemporary World – Human Rights Presentation

Your group is responsible for running a class discussion/presentation based on an assigned chapter. The goal is not to regurgitate the chapter, but rather to use the chapter as the needed foundation for your deep dive presentation. In your presentation you will include the impact of your assigned genocide on the nation’s society and the world at large.

Things to keep in mind for your group lead session/discussion:

Presentations will start March 2nd.

Your presentation will span an entire block period.

Your group will include a video/documentary/movie that covers the material covered in class, this should not exceed 20 minutes (please take note of what video I have schedule for the class). (20 points)

Guided/comprehension questions/terms - a good number to shoot for is 10 – but quality is more important than quantity. These will be submitted to Mr. Menacho at least 2 class periods prior to your presentation (please note that when I state class periods I am referring to class periods in which we meet as a class). (10 points)

Each group will create 2 quizzes – one based on the reading and the other based on the class presentation – quizzes will take place the first 5 minutes of class and the last 5 minutes of each class presentation. No more than half of each quiz can be multiple choice. (10 points)

Your presentation should keep in mind the historical significance/importance of your event as well as include the impact of the genocide on society today. When explaining the historical significance/ importance, you are being asked to judge, determine, and explain its importance in history (i.e. how they changed history, what was different after, how they altered thinking on an issue, if they inspired others, if they influenced something, etc.)

Prezi or Power Point are acceptable mediums – however your entire presentation/group led discussions should not revolve around the Prezi or power point

I can make copies of necessary materials – HOWEVER – you must give me those materials no later than 8am the morning of your presentation.
