2022-23
2023-24 Reflection: I like to this of this domain as getting a "pulse" on the community. Being active participant in community events helps me understand where the Crestomere families are at and their feelings on decsions I have made in the school. This domain is also very relevant with our current provincial government and mandates they come out with.
2022-23
2022-23 Reflection: This domain is always in the back ground of my mind for a couple reasons:
I want to know and need to know societal feelings on many different ideas and issues such as political view points, people's views on health and wellness and community interactions and relations. The reason that I need this knowledge is that it impacts the way my students, teachers, parents and community members interact and react to decisions that are made at the school. I want to be as proactive as possible to reactions, good or bad, that will impact my school.
I am an acting principal and I have been working in a role where I am "covering" another colleague. I need to be aware of decisions that colleague has made in the past, how those decisions align with mine and how my decisions could positively or negatively impact their return. I have to make sure to effectively manage all decisions in the transition to their return so it smooth and does not have an negative impact on student learning.
I am also active on social media to get an understanding of societal feelings and possible impacts within the school. I use social media (Twitter, Instagram and Facebook) to share the story of Crestomere school and the great things that are happening there. I also try to share my admin journey with the hashtag #principaldays.
2021-22
2021 Reflection: I feel this domain many not always be at the forefront of a leaders thoughts, however in the current COVID pandemic this domain has been "pushed to the front of the line" quite a bit. There have been a lot of political, social, legal, cultural and economic changes in the past two years and as result we have had to adapt and change on the fly how we plan for and interreact with our school community. Many belief systems have of the school community have been challenge and a variety of differences have been shared. I believe that this domain, and have a strong ability and understanding of domain 1: Fostering Effective Relationships, that I have situated myself to be able to listen and communicate effectively changes and processes that need to happen at the school.
Celebration:
I have been able to effectively respond to society changes that effect the school and through my strong relationship building skills I have been able to build back community connections with the school community. Examples of this include: Developing a parent council and almost zero COVID disagreements with the school community and discipline issues with students.
Areas for Growth
Continue to listen to take in a variety of perspectives and opinions so I can make the most informed decisions for the school that will have the greatest positive impact on the whole school community.
How do I met this standard?
This standard really brings forefront the idea of "never stop learning." Our world, country, province and community are constantly changing in many different ways. As a leader it is my responsibility to acknowledge those changes, understand the changes and then respond effectively to help my school community do so as well. I do not think you can just meet this standard and then be done, rather you will meet it, move on from it and then need to meet it again
This is another area I will continually grow in however I believe I have met the standard at different times by doing the following:
Administrative lead and developer of the Foundations program which focuses on building skills in our grades 10s to "help them be better prepared for high school" and executive functioning skills
I help staff, parents and students understand and create safe and caring educational opportunities for all students in our school
I work with our feeder schools to help facilitate a smooth transition to our school
I work to keep staff up to date on educational trends and instructional strategies through professional readings and social media
I work with staff and students on the use and facilitation of educational technologies that are relevant and purposeful for teaching and learning
I work with our Division Office to stay connected with coordinators that offer different services for our students.
I was part of the design team of the new Blackfalds High School and analyzed feedback from the community to design a building that would be it's needs.
