2023-24
2023-24 Reflection: A growth domain for me, however I believe we are doing great work at Crestomere School to give this domain the appropriate attention it deserves. My work in this domain for this year has included:
Giving my Indiginous Education school rep time on our PD days to share divsional news and lesson ideas.
During the fall and spring we bring out elder support to help raise and take down out teepee. The elders also speak to our classes and share their wisdom about the process of rasing and taking down a teepee.
We access Josephine Small to help teachers teach indigenous education in their classes.
I have provided time for my PE teacher to access resources and support to teach indigenous games in class.
2022-23
2022-23 Reflection: Just like last year, this domain continues to be a growth area as I work to build my foundational knowledge and capacity. I continue to collaboratively work with Crestomere school's First Nations, Métis and Inuit teacher rep and Wolf Creek First Nations, Métis and Inuit Coordinator on how we can better support teaching and learning in this domain. I provide time on professional development days for capacity building and sharing of information to better inform staff and students. Bree Harris and Josephine Small have been to the school to help teach the students First Nation dances and cook First Nation foods such as bannock.
2021-22
2021-22 Reflections: This Domain continues to be a growth area for me. This year I have had a better connection with the Wolf Creek First Nations, Métis and Inuit coordinator. I continue to collaboratively work with Crestomere school's First Nations, Métis and Inuit teacher rep and how we can better support teaching and learning in this domain.
Highlight:
The taking down, and learning about, of Crestomere school's teepee from an First Nation's Elder. I had to offer protocol for this process, which was a first for me.
Moving forward I will continue to expand my knowledge base in this domain through community and school division connections and explore professional development and resources to support teaching and learning.
This area is an area of growth for me. I am actively working to acquire and apply my foundational knowledge as I work with staff through professional development opportunities and as I teach my class and try to apply foundational knowledge in my lessons
I have part-taken in a blanket ceremony, poverty simulation and utilized the strength and knowledge we have within our school and division to build my understanding of First Nations, Métis and Inuit history and communities.
With in my class I have have collaborated with First Nations, Métis and Inuit school leaders and divisional coordinators to create a comprehensive research project to analyze the Indian Act and Bill C-31 in relation to their genetic relevance.
