A leader effectively directs operations and manages resources.
2023-24
2023-24 Reflection: I feel that this year has been a refining year. Over the last two years i have gathered a lot of information about how the school and staff opporate. As a result I feel I have been more able to appropriately target needs of the school and manage resources that we have (foods room, CTF and Skills Canada supplies, new curriculum resources) to more efficiaently meet the needs of my teachers and students. I have also worked diligently to set up partnerships with outside community resources to help meet our needs with the school.
2022-23
2022-23 Refelction: This school year I have felt significantly more prepared to address and have success in this domain in relation to an elementary setting. I feel I have significantly more confidence in relation to school operations, budgets, people management and scheduling. Being the only administrator at the school has required me to handle all of these areas which builds capacity and understanding of them all. I felt confidence last spring to adjust our timetable to add in intervention time and still meet curicular hour requirements. This has made a positive impact on teacher instruction and student support and growth. New curriculum has been a lot of work this school year, however it has also been extremely positive for my growth and understand of what students need for knowledge and skills. Diving into new curiculum has enabled me to also prusue and have collaborative conversations with staff about assessment practices and feedback methods.
2021-22
2021-22 Reflection: This domain has really been at the forefront of my work this year at Crestomere school. I feel that my past experience at a large high school really prepared me well to deal with a variety of different school needs and operations, however when one becomes the actual principal there are more duties and responsibilities that are under your care. For this year it has included: supervision schedules, time tabling and teacher/EA schedules, assignable time calculators, budget files, inclusive learning and community and division connections.
Celebration:
Confidence! In assignable time and budget files. I have limited experience in both areas, however being where the "buck stops" has just built my understanding and confidence in the overall process of the behind the scene factors that need to be handled outside of the classroom.
I also feel I have done a great job supporting staff in inclusive learning needs and finding or providing the supports or actions plans then need.
Area for Growth:
Elementary assessments, feedback tools and curriculum understanding. I just need more time to immerse myself and build my instructional capacity to help staff where needed.
How do I met this standard?
This is an area that I continual grow and expand in. As an assistant principal there are definitely certain avenues and school processes I watch over and guide, however in my desire to be a principal I know I need to further develop and understand all areas of school operations which I have identified in my areas of growth.
Areas where I have met the above criteria are listed below:
I am an active member of our LCHS Admin team which requires me to gather and analyze feedback and data from stake holders to suggest school changes and improvements that fit with our mission, vision and beliefs.
Administrative Lead for:
CRM Software utilization and implementation
Current Grade 11 Administrator
my Blueprint
Exam week and diploma scheduling
STAR Literacy Screening
I was the lead and part of the design team of LCHS's Grade 10 and 11 Foundation programs
I am the administrative bridge between our school's athletics and the office.
I am a huge supporter of High School Redesign and so I work hard to attend PD events and speak to staff and other teachers who also want to implement the High School Redesign practices in their classroom and school.
I continually search out and find resources that can help me and my staff with the implementation of the High School Redesign practices and focus on those of which have the greatest impact on student learning.
I was part of the redesign team that changed our PE program into the Health and Wellness cross curricular program that we currently offer to all students
Coordinate in-reach PE programming for students
I continually work to build my understanding of Divisional Admin Procedures and their application to the school.
On a most recent survey (2021) of my staff based on eight questions around this element I was consistently rated a 5 out of 5 by current staff members.
Specific Comments from staff included:
From the planning of exam schedules and trouble shooting any foreseen or unforeseen issues, to chatting with a student who just needs a little help to get back on track, this is another area that you continue to get better and better at.
You do what you set out to do. Much of this info is not necessarily from observing directly, but rather, seeing you in action with the staff or listening in to what kids have to say about you. They say you are firm but fair and they feel respected and that they have been treated correctly.
Jay is an action guy. He deals with some tough situations as an administrator but always mentions the fact that there always is an underlying reason for a students behavior. He encourages teachers to look for those bright spots within students and build relationships with them as a starting management strategy.
Jay is proactive and supportive when it comes to management of students.
Jay is dependable and constant. He is there to help and is someone that you can trust and rely on to support staff and students alike. He is also decisive and will follow through on and actions or duties that are needed.
