A leader builds positive working relationships with members of the school community and local community.
2023-24 School Year
2023-24 Reflections: Fostering Effective Relationships continues to be a domain at the center of everything I do. Many of the practices that have made my time at LCHS and Crestomere successful I continue to do such as:
constant and clear communication with my school community (students, teachers and parents) of process, expectations, celebrations, goals and directions.
visible in the school and outside of the school to make purposeful connections with students and parents.
continued weekly memo.
re-establishment of school council directives and goals to give a stronger purpose at guiding the school.
#cougarkindness, Student of the Month and CALL awards for students.
Sharing Crestomere School's story on what makes it a great place. The focus of this really showcases strong relationships and connection in the school.
2022-23 School Year
2022-23 Reflections: Fostering Effective Relationships continues to be a domain that I focus hard on. As mentioned through previous year's evidence, I believe this domain is foundational to success in the domains. Positive and effective relationships lead to strong communication within the school community which directly positively impacts student learning and teacher growth. This school year I have continued to use a weekly memo to inform staff of upcoming events and School Council has been well attended and active in planning evets and giving feedback to the school. A new initiative I started this year was Kindness Awards and Student of the Month . This gave me another avenue to Celebrate kids and connect with parents over the good things they are doing at Crestomere.

2021-22 School Year
Reflection:
I feel that this domain is a strength of mine and I take pride in developing positive and productive relationships. I very firmly believe that without positive and effective relationships that teaching, learning and leading is very difficult. Effective relationships for me are built on trust, teamwork, clear communication and respect. I strive for these qualities when working with students, staff and parents.
My goal for this year, which can be referenced in my PGP, was to develop a strong and effective relationship with the whole Crestomere Community. I completed this by actively communicating with all parties. My office door is always open, I am visible to students and staff and parents and I regularly communicate my ideas and thoughts through face to face, virtual, email and social media means.
I wanted communication between staff to be smooth and effective. An elementary school (any school really) is a busy place and staff are run off their feet frequently. I share a Weekly Memo on Friday about the upcoming week and events that we be taking place. Staff have really liked this process.
Celebration:
Celebrations I want to highlight are:
As viewed in my staff feedback document conducted by Wolf Creek People Services, the Crestomere staff are very appreciative of my weekly memos and how it sets them up for the week with upcoming events and information. This was an easy task to undertake and I am glad they find it helpful.
Over 90% of parents surveyed (35 respondents out of 68) felt that:
A theme from the survey was that communication and connection between home and school has increased this past year when compared to last.
Parent comments included:
I have truly noticed a difference this year with communication, school spirit and parent involvement. The school feels like a place parents can share ideas, hopes and issues. There has been more teacher (Principal) involvement than I have ever experienced. Mr Adamson has done an incredible job involving the children and parents to make our school feel like a safe community. I realize Covid has been hard, Mr Adamson really makes an effort to find a way to reach each student and their parents.
My 3 children have really noticed the engagement Mr. Adamson has with each of their classes, he has brought an excellent energy and supportive attitude that was very needed in the school! All of my children are thoroughly enjoying this school year, keep up the great work!
Much better communication from the principal this year than previous years. He wants to get parents more involved and informed.
Really enjoying the new leadership at the school.
I have been able to get an active school council formed. We have monthly meetings with a high participation rate. November School Council Agenda.
Areas of Growth:
I fully acknowledge the importance of always connecting positively with students, staff and parents. Committing to building effective relationships will only strengthen my ability to lead a school community and as a result I fully understand the need to continue pushing forward in this domain. As a leader I also fully accept responsibility to make sure school staff are also connecting with stakeholders. As a result I will continue to explore other ways and platforms that make sharing and connecting easy and purposeful for all such as Schoology. Other areas of connection I would like to maintain are the school year startup phone calls I made and I want to also do mid-year calls as well.

How do I met this standard?
Relationships are key in an profession when working with people and as an educator they are at the forefront of everything I do. Developing positive and effective relationships with all stakeholders is one of my main objectives.
I believe that it is always beneficial to take time to talk with students, staff and parents to get to know who they are away from the school setting and to let them know who I am.
This helps me create environments where each individual is treated as an individual and I am able to act and treat others with fairness, dignity and integrity.
As a teacher and administrator I actively communicate with parents and guardians over student learning and well-being.
I work hard to develop strong relationships through open communication lines.
I maintain an open door policy with all involved in the school community. I want students and parents/guardians know I am her to support and help
In my classes I regularly consult with our First Nations, Metis and Inuit staff leaders to implement new and connected teachings in indigenous knowledge
In my Biology 30 class I consulted with our Divisional First Nations, Metis and Inuit coordinator about a major research project we do in class.
I think it is vital to make sure staff feel supported and connected with.
Whether it is just a small check-in, a walk-through or active collaboration, I do my best to guide, assist, listen and push forward as need the staff at my school
When staff on concerns, issues or problems I actively do my best to listen and problem solve with them to find proactive and concrete solutions.
On a most recent survey (2021) of my staff based on eight questions around this element I was consistently rated a 5 out of 5 by current staff members.
Specific Comments from staff included:
Jay has always listened to any concerns I had and did his best to assist.
I feel you show a great balance between fun and serious. I appreciate this as both a parent and a staff member!
You are exceptional at fostering positive relationships with staff, students, parents and the community. You are always warm and welcoming, and your sense of humor is appreciated.
I would assume that this is one of your more natural strengths, as it appears to come easy to you to interact with any and all stakeholders.
You are around, you are available and you are knowledgeable and able to share thoughts and ideas for all in an attempt to make things the best they can be.
Jay makes a point to do his rounds and check in with staff. When he shows up he does so with humour and gets us laughing which in most cases is what we need in the moment. He is firm but fair. He truly has the students best interests at heart but at the same time is not afraid to be frank with them.
Jay is a caring administrator that takes time to listen and understand before coming to conclusions.
Jay is authentic and direct in his communication with others. He is caring but firm in his expectations of students.

You are a great people person. This translates into being able to adapt to working well with the staff in the building.
You have great personal skills, great enthusiasm, great energy for trying new things. You offer support to students who need it and are firm with students who need the structure
Relationship building with staff and students would be your strongest quality as a leader
You relate well to the staff and are very trusted to deliver a common sense approach to student guidance. Students that are sent to you are given support within acceptable guidelines. They are held accountable for their actions.
I know that fostering effective relationships is an ever growing skill and I will continue to work at developing relationships especially with students and staff who are resisters of change. I want all involved in the school community to have a voice and be comfortable in their working/learning environment.
