Welcome back to St. John’s Prep. I am very excited to be your social studies and communications teacher this year!

Course Objectives:

This class has been designed to cover the Global Studies 10 Curriculum as well as prepare you for your New York State Regents Exam in June 2010. The Social Studies Department at St. John’s Prep is committed both to helping students understand our past as it affects our own age and to explore in depth key events that have significantly shaped history. The Communication component will provide our students every opportunity to expand and improve reading and writing skills across the curriculum.

II. Grade Assessment for the semester: Your two grades at the end of each quarter are comprised of a number of components which include all of the following. Students must understand that HW is an integral component of the class and counts as an exam grade in each marking period

  1. Unit Exams
  2. Quizzes
  3. Homework
  4. Projects
  5. DBQ / Essays
  6. Class Participation and Attendance

Homework is given nearly every day. Late home works will only be excused with a note from the parent. This is allowed once per quarter.

All homework should be on loose-leaf. (They may be typed).

III. Absences

· Students should be prepared to be here every day. If a student is absent the student must bring in the assignment the following day. Tests and quizzes will be made up within a day of their return.

· Since each student will have access to their weekly assignment via the internet along with their text at home it will be easier to keep up with the work if there is a medical reason to stay home.
