Water is such a precious commodity in deep rural areas. We got a taste of this today when we did the food delivery for the 3rd Term (Tuesday 6th August, 2013).
Thanks to Junk Shop in Pongola for keeping their prices so constant. We paid the same amount for the food order in April.
Anna Buthelezi continues to put every ounce of effort into her crèche in Sovane. They have established two small vegetable gardens which are desperately battling the elements – lack of water and fowl behaviour (literally – the chickens are nibbling at the leaves!) We gave Anna a donation of R200 towards water. There is no running water and a 200 litre drum costs R40.
Majozi at Kwadla-Kuze also continues to battle along. There are 18 children on the registry, and although pleased as punch to see us, we feel that he needs a mentor to help him along with teaching skills. These communities are plagued with village politics and it’s always difficult to know when and how much to interfere. None of the parents have paid him any money this month. Our consolation is that 18 tiny people will get a meal each day.
Our constant gratitude for the kind donations from Beletha Foundation and the cash donation from John and Lynda Oldham (UK).
