The 3 creches have certainly been showered with Love!
Term 2 deliveries included more generosity from St. Michael's Anglican Church including boxes of Easter Eggs,
loads of goodies from Mary Hardy, Wonderbags from Rhino River Lodge in the Zululand Rhino Reserve,
the usual pantry of food and at last an opportunity to see the
completed kitchen at KwaDla-Kuse.
The bakkie loaded with food and gifts for the 3 creches at KwaDla-Kuse, Sovane and Maphambeni.
Thanks to my husband, Rob, and Lindiwe who are always incredibly supportive.
Rob helps to get us places and unravels the confusing Zulu dialogue!
St. Michael's Anglican Church in Umhlanga Rocks has certainly taken the
Trust under their wing.
They donated boxes and boxes of Easter eggs much to the delight of the children, plus the church nominated the Trust for March's Basket Sunday.
This enabled us to take extra food to each creche -
like mielie meal, rice, sugar, pasta and beans.
Rhino River Lodge were kind enough to include the creches in their distribution of Wonderbags. These energy saving bags will help with cooking efficiency
and reduce the cost of gas -
or in the case of KwaDla-Kuse, save wood burning.
Friends from St. Michael's blessed us with some extra cash. We identified the need to upgrade the kitchen facilities at KwaDla-Kuse.
For the past 12 years the gogos (grannies) have been cooking on the ground in the blazing sun.
Now they have a very smart, covered area to prepare food for the children.
Rev. Margot Graham and the Graham Caritas Trust are sponsoring Anna Buthelezi and Nomfondu Vilane to complete a 2 year diploma in Early Childhood Development through Adelaine Training Solutions in Nongoma. This is an incredible boost to the project and such a special gesture to these two rural women.
Education like this comes at a cost and it is difficult for them to generate funds.
The monthly cost is R650 per teacher.
And finally, a lovely tale to tell. 13 year old Minenhle Zama Masango was probably 2 when the creche at KwaDla-Kuse was established. Her mother was one of the first teachers. Minenhle now lives in Pietermaritzburg with her father and was on holiday visiting her mother in the community when we delivered food. She currently attends St. Anne's, a prestigious private school, and a far cry from the dusty ox-bow in Zululand! Minenhle was helping out at the creche during her school holidays.
Our sincere thanks to everyone who keeps the heart beating for these tiny, almost forgotten communities.
Without your support we could not take these life changing opportunities to these amazing folk.
With love
Lois Kuhle
