JANUARY DONATIONS
And then the rains came down. Finally.
This has possibly been the driest summer since we have been in the district.
Winter is always a stretch but the promise of rain keeps our spirits up.
A dry summer is soul destroying.
It was 38 degrees C when we visited the schools on 27th January. Stinking hot and humid. The earth was parched and God knows what the cattle and goats were finding to eat. Water is scarce and the Mkuze River was one big sandpit.
Our first stop was KwaDla-Kuse. Thanks to the unbelievable generosity of Pam Schubach and Tracey Tomlinson we have some available funds to improve the facilities at this creche. It was our first project and very dear to us, but it never seems to progress like the other two. Our challenge is to improve their kitchen area. This is why:
Instructions were given to a resident builder with sweeping gestures, articulated in Zulu and scribbled drawings.
In true Zululand style, it inevitably comes together quite successfully.
This will hopefully be completed before the end of this term.
2014 ended on a generous high with Santa Shoe Boxes being distributed to Sovane.
2015 started with a beautiful big bang with bags of clothes, toys, all sorts from St. Michael's Anglican Church in Umhlanga Rocks.
Lindsay Thompson encouraged her work mates at Hunt Lascaris TBWA (Durban) to gather groceries.
We took out boxes of delicious fare, most commodities are beyond their wildest dreams. Thank you for this plentiful pantry!
Phillipa Murray from Mount Edgecombe seems to have an internal sensor. Every time I pack my car up in Durban Phillipa arrives with
bags of toys, stationery and clothes that her children are kind enough to surrender.
A friend slipped some money into our bank account. You know who you are!
On request from the community we bought Zulu Bibles and prayer books.
THAT EVENING - THE RAINS CAME DOWN.
WHAT A BLESSING!!
