The mixed terrain series box of tricks has been packed away until next year. With the addition of the 400 the event difficult was raised a notch for both participants and volunteers. Distance, elevation, elapse times, and average speed tell one story, food consumed and beer drunk tell another, but photos don't lie. Just take a look on Facebook and Google+The anxious faces that disappeared into the late night and early morning returned with a weary joy that was obvious to see. Its not a minor undertaking, even for the the experienced and confident. And its not easy to know what the riders take away from such a big day. Who knows the dark places they've been to in their moments of doubt, and for some anger.
Some riders return to deal with unfinished business, others to explore their limits and some for a fun day out on the bike. And just as every challenge can be increased, every acheivement should be recognised. So to all of you who take part, both riders and volunteers, I say well done, you made all the work and preparation well worth while.
See you at Gippy Gold in March
