Update: All done till next year. More news, a ride report and results coming soon.
In the mean time checkpout Brendans ride on Strava.
Go away, you must be crazy
But if you insist there will be a mixed terrain 600 Saturday 30th May 2015.
The Gippy Super Six is designed to make the most of the South Gippsland Region, take in some of the best roads (and hills), and visit the places you don't often get to on the average ride.
This means that there will be dirt, there will be hills, and there could be a few tears. to balance this out there will be warm dinners, hot drinks, (plus a few cold ones), and plenty of cheery vollies to will you on towards an epic 600. Come on, surly a mixed'ish terrain 600 earns the epic monica!
OK so its not a full on Mixed Terrain Randonnée, but there will be a few substantially long sections.
If you really, really want, I'll put together a fully sealed alternative. But you might have to beg. And you will regret missing out on the awesome dirt sections. I wouldn't put them in if they weren't spectacular.
Prices will be about $65 for members and CA licence holders $75 for non-members.
Registration: click here to enter (early bird offer open until 17th May, registration closes Sunday 23rd May) There are only 20 places available on this event.
The ride will be run as a series of three loops out of the Leongatha Apex Caravan Park
Address: 14 Turner Street, Leongatha VIC 3953
Phone:(03) 5662 2753
This means you have the option of a warm bed, unless you want to ride through. You'll need to book accommodation. The caravan park is the most convenient, but there are plenty of other options in town.
Currently they have a number of cabins available at between $80-$100 per night.
There will be support at the end of each loop back at the caravan park. Plus breakie before the start.
There are a good spread of unsupported checkpoints along the route. Sorry we wont be able to feed you at each checkpoint.
The loops will vary in length, and aim to be similar in style to Gippsland Gold. in terms of climbing, road surface etc.
The running order would begin with a 200km loop on Saturday, followed by a 150km loop, and then on Sunday the final 250km loop to bring up the 600km total distance.
Loop One click here Dist. 206.4 km. Ascent +3073 m
Loop Two click here Dist. 156.9 km, Ascent +1450 m
Loop Three click here Dist. 242.6 km, Ascent +3390 m
Note: Ride With GPS tends to over estimate the total amount of climbing so the figures above are probably about 20% more than the actual.
And Now For Something Completely Different - A Sealed Mixed Terrain Randonnée!
Not sure if you can handle 600 km of Mixed Terrain? Have no fear, we've thrown in a few sealed options. Still just as scenic, read hilly, but no less challenging. You'll be swapping the Sunday trip up the fabulous Morwell River Road for the magnificent Col de Balook. Anyway, enough waffle, check it at the links below:
