News and information about a range of cycling events organised for the Victoria Region of the Audax Australia Cycling Club. The events are mostly Mixed Terrain Randonnées or gravel grinders, and every now and then a 100% road ride, but only if its sufficiently interesting. In general the routes are scenic, low traffic and off the beaten path.

Gravel Routes

Melbourne Area: Easy gravel suitable for all skill levels include newbies

• Nongs Loop - A favourite Friday afternoon welcome to the weekend. The action starts at the Basin if you want to cut out some bikepaths.
• Sugar Loaf - More gravel, less bikepaths, and a few pitches and a gentle trip back via the Main Yarra Trail.
• Searching for the Bunyip 100km - Not far out of the city but feels like a different world. Sherwood Park Orchard is a great spot to start the ride, otherwise you can use suburban rail to get to Pakenham and join the route via the Toomuc Valley Road.
• Dirty Donna - And old favourite and especially if you're looking for a winter snow ride close to the city.
• Kinglake via Mt Slide - A good introduction to the area with lots of options to explore.

Gippsland (South)

• Grand Ridge Road - Treat yourself to excellent day of gravel. Plenty of variety but the Grand Ridge between Gunyah Junction and English Corner is unforgettable for all the right reasons.
• Gippsland Gold - Great done as part of the Melbourne Randonneur event, but also awesome at other times of the year. The 200 is a pretty big day out, or a solid two day'er with an overnight in Foster. Conditions, 50% gravel and generally well groomed. The route can be cut short (150km) by following the Grand Ridge Road from Gunyah Junction to Mirboo North, or by taking the rail-trail from Boolarra to Mirboo North (110km).
