Like Brett Michaels continuous rotation of girlfriends, Gray has an army of headwear to protect his precious chops. But legends can go the extra step to look fancy.
The Gray Wall has been in this league his Day 1. And while many may not know, it wasn't as a goalie, but rather as a ref. Eventually resistance was futile and Gray was called into action to replace "Dewayne" for the Chiefs. Later Gray would don the pads for the Frost in 2009. By 2010, he was netminder for the Blackhawks. But he is best known as the backbone of the Whalers where he has won three (3) Cups (2011, 2014, 2016). Though some would argue he played a role in a fourth Cup as the fill-in platoon goal tender as Gm1 starter for the Silverbacks in 2015 when both their #1 and #2 goalies suffered injury. It is a moment in VMA history the Rangers would suggest is a a violation that led to their unraveling.
With his flowing locks, an avid Duck Dynasty supporter and a dead ringer for a Willie Nelson impersonator - along with being named Haverhill's Most Eligible Bachelor in 2006 - Gray is hard to miss. Some would say he is the most notorious player in the VMA. And as legend would have it, he has shook the hands of Grant Furh, Ron Hextall, Tom Barrasso, Henrik Lundquvist, coached Cory Schneider and had his first born blessed in an airport terminal by none other than Andy Moog. No wonder Gray is so good. And if none of that is really true, well, it oughta be.
