Outline
All Saints’ Church itself is our only Grade 1 listing, dating from the 12th century.13 Within the churchyard the Healle, Messiter and Archer monuments are Grade 2 listed. A number of Church Street buildings are Grade 2 listed. These are the Chapel and house numbers 12, 20, 21, 25 and 26 on the East side; and on the West side the Old Vicarage, Old Dower House (formerly Seymour House), Old Manor House and house numbers 27 and 28. A large part but not all of the house and surrounding buildings of Bradley House are Grade 2 listed. Priory farmhouse, cowshed, and farm building at right angles to the cowshed, are Grade 2 listed. The cowshed and farm building incorporate the remains of the Augustinian Priory. Other listings (all Grade 2) are Grange Farmhouse, Perry Farmhouse and the cast iron County Boundary marker (Wiltshire / Somerset) on the road bridge at the junction to Horningsham.

Listed & Scheduled
Although most structures appearing on the lists are buildings, other structures such as bridges, monuments, sculptures, war memorials, and even milestones and mileposts and The Beatles' Abbey Road pedestrian crossing are also listed. Ancient, military and uninhabited structures, such as Stonehenge, are sometimes instead classified as Scheduled Ancient Monuments and protected by much older legislation whilst cultural landscapes such as parks and gardens are currently "listed" on a non-statutory basis.
According to the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979, a monument cannot be a structure which is occupied as a dwelling, used as a place of worship or protected under the Protection of Wrecks Act 1973. As a rough rule of thumb, a protected historic asset that is occupied would be designated as a listed building.
